Alvaro J. Pereira

Alvaro J. Pereira is the Executive Vice President of Food For The Poor. After serving as a member of the organization’s board of directors for eight years, he joined the charity in September 2010.

Pereira is leading Food For The Poor’s expansion actions and working to build relationships with like-minded international agencies and foundations. The international nonprofit community has honored Pereira with several awards for his work in relieving the suffering of the poor. Pereira is a Knight of the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of Saint John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and of Malta. He serves on his parish council, and is a member of the John Carroll Society in Washington D.C. Pereira holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from Texas A&M University.

Born in Nicaragua, he immigrated to the United States at the age of 17. After living in several states and countries, Pereira and his wife, along with their three children live in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
