Having easy access to clean water is one of those incredible blessings we tend to take for granted here in the U.S. We turn taps, draw baths, flush toilets, clean dishes, run the washer, water plants, take showers, hose down children (my kids love dirt), and quench our thirst without much thought.
We don’t often think about the complex network of treatment plants, pumps, pipes and other engineering marvels that bring steady streams of clean water directly to us.
What would our lives be like without clean water?
Living Without Clean Water
One of the biggest ongoing crises facing our brothers and sisters in Haiti is a widespread lack of clean water. Most people are living in homes without water connections of any kind, and are too poor to buy clean water. So they are forced to rely on unsafe sources like polluted streams.
It’s a tragic fact that a lack of clean water is consistently one of the main reasons why small children die in Haiti. The persistent cholera outbreak is only making the situation worse.
But thank God for our friends behind the Water-Life-Hope project.
This extraordinary group of big-hearted people from the Atlanta area continues to faithfully raise funds to establish clean water projects throughout Haiti. Thanks to their efforts, more than 350,000 Haitians have gotten access to clean, safe water through wells, cisterns and filtration systems.
For their most recent project, Water-Life-Hope is on a mission to provide 200 wells for Haitian communities in desperate need of a safe water source.
