You Can Help Save a Child’s Life
In Haiti, 3-year-old Leonella is starving. Her thin, rust-tinged hair and stunted growth are the telltale signs of severe malnutrition. Her mother, Viergelie, does the best she can but constantly worries about her precious little girl. And as she watches Leonella suffer more each day, Viergelie is afraid that unless her little one receives proper nutrition soon, she will edge even closer to becoming a tragic statistic.
In desperation, when there is no food, Viergelie and her children squeeze into the tiny straw hut that is their home and lay on the hard dirt floor to sleep.
“When I don’t have anything to give them,” Viergelie said, “I lay down and have them lay down next to me until we fall asleep.”
