Educational Barriers
Guatemalan children face many educational barriers, including the high cost of tuition, uniforms, books, and other school supplies. This is worsened by the inefficiency of Guatemala's education system, which doesn’t extend to the whole country. There are more than two million out-of-school youth (aged 15 - 24) in Guatemala.
The Education Deficit
The education deficit in Guatemala has resulted in 13% of the population being illiterate. In rural areas, this issue is even more pronounced, with 17% of the community lacking basic literacy skills. There is also a low digital literacy rate, with 68% of the population needing to learn basic computer skills.
FFTP's Scholarship Program
FFTP's scholarship program helps students graduate from high school and college and find good jobs. We focus on supporting low-income children from rural communities with grants that cover school fees, internet access, textbooks, school uniforms, footwear, and school insurance. We also provide additional support through tutoring, mentorship, and job readiness training.
