Nicaragua

Nicaragua is an impoverished Central American country about the size of Pennsylvania. Outside of Haiti, Nicaragua is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.

Approximately 30 percent of all Nicaraguans are trying to survive below the poverty line.

A lack of healthcare, adequate housing and decent schools — coupled with a widespread lack of opportunity — are all major challenges to progress. Poor children in Nicaragua are extremely vulnerable to infectious diseases, malnutrition and a lack of clean water, which continue to pose some of the biggest threats to child survival. Natural disasters (such as chronic droughts) are another constant threat to the Nicaraguan people, a large percentage of whom rely upon agriculture for survival.

Food For The Poor has been working to help the poor of Nicaragua since 1998. We continue to bring aid and sustainable development projects to those most in need.
