Barry University Donates Computers to Food For The Poor
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (November 25, 2008) —Barry University has donated over 100 computers, monitors and keyboards to Food For The Poor. A full truckload of equipment was contributed and will be used to equip the schoolchildren in the Caribbean and Latin America.
“The Information Systems staff of Barry University were outstanding in their generosity,” said Angel Aloma, executive director of Food For The Poor. “We cannot express enough gratitude for the outpouring of support in our initiative to aid the children of the third world.”
Food For The Poor has initiated a project to supply computers to schools, vocational centers and orphanages that will enable poor children to gain computer literacy. Using an access device that turns one personal computer (PC) into a multi-user host with seven monitors and keyboards, seven children can be served by each PC — providing a huge cost savings.
According to Karl-Marc Degraff, assistant director of Information Technology for Barry University, “We are pleased that this equipment will be used by so many children. Computer literacy is an absolute necessity in today’s world.”
Food For The Poor, the largest international relief and development organization in the nation and the No.1 charity in Florida, does much more than feed millions of hungry poor in 17 countries of the Caribbean and Latin America. Since 1982, we have provided clean water, medicines, educational materials, homes, support for orphans and the aged, skills training and emergency relief, with more than 96% of all donations going directly to programs that help the poor.
