Atlanta Event to Raise Money to Build Schools in Jamaica

ATLANTA (June 24, 2010) –Philanthropic-minded residents and sponsors unite to host the third annual Atlanta Food For The Poor event, New Hope, New Beginnings, Friday, Sept. 10, at the W Atlanta – Buckhead.

“Proceeds from this year’s event will help families break the generational cycle of poverty by building schools in Jamaica – providing communities with new hope and new beginnings,” said Nawal Shadeed, Event Chairwoman.

Food For The Poor’s Jamaica School Construction Program was created to build schools and to replace old, run-down buildings and huts with safe, new, healthy learning environments. Water and sanitation projects, in addition to the donation of educational supplies like folding classroom chairs and reading books, have greatly helped disadvantaged children island-wide learn basic life skills.

The evening will include live music by Lethal Rhythms, a silent auction, dancing, and a memorable dinner with friends. Bidding on silent auction prizes such as exclusive art and collectibles from the Caribbean and Latin America, designer jewelry, vacations, golf and dining packages offer opportunities for guests to shop and donate to the cause.
