Food For The Poor Celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month Highlighting the Inspiring Journey of David, a Young Chef from El Salvador
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (Sept. 24, 2024) – David, a budding, respected chef from El Salvador, says he found his calling in the kitchen when he arrived at an Angels Of Hope children’s home at the age of 12.
It was during this time that David, now 22, said he discovered his love for cooking, experimenting with ingredients and techniques to create dishes that not only nourish but also celebrate his cultural heritage.
In honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month, Food For The Poor (FFTP) proudly recognizes the remarkable journey of individuals like David, whose story exemplifies the innovation that lies at the heart of Hispanic heritage.
David’s passion for cooking took a professional turn when a representative from an organization offering a hospitality and tourism training program visited the home. David enrolled in the general cooking program, a choice that has shaped his career.
Today, David works at Nutri-Food, a food-preparation company in El Salvador, where he now supervises the general kitchen area.
“I think if I hadn’t been in a home, I wouldn’t be a cook,” he said, crediting the Angels Of Hope program for his success.
With the support of FFTP and his own determination, David has been successfully providing for himself for the past four years, embodying the spirit of resilience and hope that defines his community.
FFTP President/CEO Ed Raine expressed his admiration for David’s journey and the countless others like him.
“David’s story is a powerful example of how the support and opportunities provided by Food For The Poor can transform lives. His dedication to his craft and his ability to honor his heritage through his work is truly inspiring,” Raine said.
“As we commemorate National Hispanic Heritage Month, we celebrate the rich cultural contributions of the Hispanic community and reaffirm our commitment to supporting the dreams and aspirations of young people like David,” Raine added.
The Angels Of Hope child sponsorship program supports safe havens where boys and girls can grow and develop mentally and physically.
Established in 2003, this program aims to improve the lives of vulnerable children by providing essential items to the group homes, so the children can heal, grow, and thrive in a loving environment where their basic needs, including food, education, and health care, are met.
In 2023, caring donors sponsored 5,545 vulnerable children in 130 children’s homes in Haiti, Jamaica, Guyana, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. The program soon will expand to Colombia, Peru, and Mexico.
