Food For The Poor Helps Palm Beach County Pastor Prepare for Thanksgiving
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (Nov. 13, 2017) For nearly a decade, Pastor Norman “D.C.” Perkins has been providing Thanksgiving meals for struggling families in Palm Beach County. He received his first donation for 50 turkeys from Food For The Poor in 2009, but this year’s gift from the charity to the pastor’s organization will be far greater.
On Thursday, Nov. 16 at 1 p.m. at the Food For The Poor headquarters, 6401 Lyons Road, Coconut Creek, Fla., Perkins will receive a donation to buy more than 400 turkeys.
“With the cost of food constantly on the rise it’s becoming increasingly difficult for some families to afford a hot meal on a daily basis, let alone the holidays, a fact that’s hard for many to accept as reality in the United States and right here in South Florida,” said President/CEO of Food For The Poor Robin Mahfood. “It’s an honor to contribute to Pastor Norman’s feeding ministry and to help him and his volunteers to feed as many people as possible this Thanksgiving holiday.”
Perkins’ Liberty Movement Ministry has a plan to feed more than 5,000 people Thanksgiving week.
- Monday, Nov. 20, at 11 a.m. registration begins for the distribution of a gift box, which includes a turkey and traditional side dishes, for a family of four at the Liberty Movement Food Pantry, 2501 Bristol Drive, West Palm Beach, Fla.
- Tuesday, Nov. 21, Liberty Movement Ministry will assist the Salvation Army at 600 N. Rosemary Ave., West Palm Beach, Fla., with food, food preparation and serving.
- Saturday, Nov. 25, Liberty Movement Ministry will serve a hot meal for the homeless or anyone who’s hungry at 2501 Bristol Drive beginning at noon.
“To tell you the truth, there’s a genuine need in Palm Beach County and we feed hundreds of families every Monday, and I don’t think people realize that,” Perkins said. “There are no words to express my deepest gratitude to Food For The Poor, who is our one consistent donor. I don’t see how we would be able to provide Thanksgiving without them. When someone asks, how they can contribute? I advise them to donate to Food For The Poor because they really do help people.”
Food For The Poor, one of the largest international relief and development organizations in the nation, does much more than feed millions of the hungry poor primarily in 17 countries of the Caribbean and Latin America. This interdenominational Christian ministry provides emergency relief assistance, clean water, medicines, educational materials, homes, support for orphans and the aged, skills training and micro-enterprise development assistance. Over the last 10 years, fundraising and other administrative costs averaged less than 5 percent of our expenses; more than 95 percent of all donations went directly to programs that help the poor.
