Food For The Poor’s 2015 Annual Report

COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (April 27, 2016) Food For The Poor, named by The Chronicle of Philanthropy as one of the largest international relief and development organizations in the United States, shipped 3,660 containers of essential goods and provided nearly $1.2 billion in aid in 2015, according to its Annual Report released this week.

In 2015, Food For The Poor built 9,431 new housing units for families in need of secure shelter, bringing the total to more than 107,800 housing units since 1982. Thanks to the loving generosity of its donors, almost 57 million pounds of food were distributed to feed malnourished children and their families, which does not include the yield from hundreds of donor supported agriculture, aquaculture and animal husbandry projects.

When they receive food, a desperately needed house, or when the family can support their children and provide them an education, it is something that’s truly life-changing,” said Robin Mahfood, CEO/President of Food For the Poor. “Our goals for 2016 are to help as many families as possible to become self-sufficient. Some highlights from Food For The Poor’s 2015 Annual Report:

• Provided 713 tractor-trailers of medicines and medical supplies.
• Provided 176 tractor-trailers of school furniture, books and supplies.
• Provided 149 tractor-trailers of clothing and shoes.
• Provided 1,190 tractor-trailers of food.

Through the Angels Of Hope orphan sponsorship program, compassionate donors are assisting in the care of 5,212 children in 154 homes, giving them a chance for a brighter future.

Food For The Poor, one of the largest international relief and development organizations in the nation, does much more than feed millions of the hungry poor in 17 countries of the Caribbean and Latin America.
