Royal Unibrew Donates Container of Vitamalt to Haiti
The makers of Vitamalt®, serving the nutritional needs and providing refreshment throughout the Caribbean for nearly 50 years, donated a full shipping container of Vitamalt alcohol-free malt beverage as earthquake relief to the people of Haiti. Once the earthquake hit, René Vestergaard, Commercial Director for Royal Unibrew Caribbean Ltd., reached out immediately to the Haitian distributor Brasserie de la Couronne.
“We know the region suffers from natural disasters and have moved forward with initiatives when possible. We were pleased to learn that our distributor – Brasserie de la Couronne – had limited loss of life and damages, though this cannot be comforting in the wake of this terrible tragedy unfolding in the country,” Vestergaard said.
The shipping container was sent in coordination with the sister company in Miami, The Danish Brewery Group, Inc.
“One of the biggest challenges was getting product to the Haitian people,” said North American Sales & Marketing Manager Mark Abrams.
That is why he contacted Food For The Poor.
“We have worked with Robin Mahfood, President/CEO of Food For The Poor, in the past. Our goal was to get the product to Haiti, and we knew that Food For The Poor could accomplish the task – they are one of the major international relief and development organizations in the region and have been working in Haiti for 24 years, so it was natural to work together,” Abrams said.
The donated Vitamalt® will reach as many as 50,000 Haitians during their continued time of need.
“We thank Royal Unibrew for both this important donation to the people of Haiti, and for their confidence in Food For The Poor in making sure that it is properly distributed,” Mahfood said. “This will provide lifesaving hydration and nutrients to people who are struggling each day to live.”
Royal Unibrew A/S operates in more than 80 countries and is the owner of Vitamalt®, the world’s most recognized malt brand. For the last several years, the Vitamalt® slogan has been, “Vitamalt takes care of you…” – a slogan the group takes seriously.
