Statement from Robin Mahfood, President/CEO of Food For The Poor
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (Jan. 27, 2010) –”We learned today that the search has ended for the missing students and faculty members traveling with us to Haiti on our “Journey of Hope.” Our hearts go out to all of the families, and to our family at Lynn University. Along with them, our hearts are broken. We started praying for them before their journey even began, and we have prayed for them each day since their journey started.
“These young people and their advisors who traveled with us went to Haiti to serve the poor. All of them went with hearts full of love, and spirits full of energy and service. That is the way that we will remember them. Those who have returned will continue their work for the poor with renewed passion to honor Stephanie Crispinelli, Brittany Gengel, Christine Gianacaci, Courtney Hayes, Patrick Hartwick and Richard Bruno, whose selfless devotion to the poor will continue to inspire others and make their legacy eternal. We’re thankful for all the Lynn students and faculty who traveled to Haiti and for our own staff member Leann Chong, who was traveling with them and who is now recovering in a Central Florida hospital.
“Henceforth, any home that is built, any well that is dug, any child that is nurtured by those who represent Lynn University will be instilled with the spirit of service and sacrifice of those who will so fondly be remembered.
“Our prayers continue for all of the students and their families, and we ask for God’s consolation and gift of peace in this time of grief.”
