Boca Grande’s Hope For Haitians Reaches Fundraising Goal for Sixth Village
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (May 4, 2016) The Boca Grande Hope For Haitians committee is happy to announce that they have reached their fundraising goal of 27 homes to complete Friendship Village VI, in Gressier, Haiti.
“We are very thankful to the donors who stepped in to provide Hope For Haitians with the additional funds needed to complete this project,” said Ben Scott, Chairman of Boca Grande Hope For Haitians. “It’s wonderful to know that these families soon will have secure homes.”
In February, Scott addressed the Boca Grande Committee members and guests during their annual fundraising event at the historic Gasparilla Inn Beach Club in Boca Grande, Fla. It was there that he revealed plans to build additional homes and a community center in Friendship Village VI through the international relief and development organization Food For The Poor.
An additional 27 families will receive two-room houses, which will include kitchenettes, sanitation units and water cisterns. Each family will be given a solar-powered light kit, and the village will be provided with two solar-powered street lamps. These homes will be built in the same community as the 33 homes of Friendship Village V that the Boca Grande Committee built last year, for a total of 60 homes in this Gressier community.
“It’s truly amazing to see the generous spirit of our donors. Last month, the Hope For Haitians committee was six homes away from their 27-home goal, but thanks to the kindness of the residents of Boca Grande, these six homes will be in place this summer,” said Angel Aloma, Executive Director of Food For The Poor. “Boca Grande Hope For Haitians is doing amazing work in Haiti. We are witnessing how their efforts are transforming lives, one family at a time.”
Committee members include: Chairmen Ben and Louise Scott, the Rev. Gary Beatty, Jerome Carosella, the Rev. Michelle Robertshaw, the Rev. Matthew M. Williams, Henry and Ginny Bryant, George and Lois Castrucci, Patricia Chapman, Charlie and Florita Field, Lou and Corie Fusz, Stephen and Susan Jansen, Mick and Susan Johnson, Tom and Nancy Lorden, Colvin and Madelaine McCrady, and Peter and Elsa Soderberg.
