Ed Raine

President and Chief Executive Officer

Ed Raine, President and Chief Executive Officer, leads Food For The Poor (FFTP), one of the largest international relief and development organizations in the nation. In addition to leading the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), Ed directly oversees the fundraising efforts for Major Gifts, Institutional Giving, and Planned Giving. FFTP remains steadfast in its mission to facilitate paths out of poverty and transform lives. Over its 43-year history, FFTP has built more than 95,000 homes and 1,500 schools, and distributed over $18 billion in aid. Under Ed’s leadership, FFTP continues to honor its legacy of providing aid to children and families in need while also expanding its focus to include helping impoverished communities.

This new approach enables FFTP to scale up solutions for those living in poverty in Latin America and the Caribbean through sustainable development that identifies and addresses communities’ economic, social, and spiritual challenges, in addition to infrastructure needs, such as community centers, schools and houses.  By empowering families to be self-sufficient and thrive in the long term, the organization emphasizes “building lives” and not just “building things.”

Ed joined FFTP in October 2017, was appointed Executive Vice President in May 2018, and became President and Chief Executive Officer in January 2020.  His first encounter with FFTP was during a mission trip to Haiti in 2009. He realized he could align his passion to help organizations scale for growth with donors who want to make a difference in the world by helping those who are significantly less fortunate. Before joining FFTP, Ed served in global executive roles in Operations and Human Resources. His understanding of how to shape company cultures has enabled organizations to scale for high performance and growth. His focus is on clear strategic direction, efficiency, and organizational effectiveness, while guiding companies during periods of significant change.

In addition to his 30-plus years in the corporate world, Ed served on the Board and as Chairman of the Board for the nonprofit Northeast Human Resources Association (NEHRA), and as a Corporate Sponsor Liaison with Best Buddies International. Ed was born and raised in London, England. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He also has a Certification in Organizational Development from Columbia University, a Certification in Fundraising from Boston University, and he has completed 16 courses in Theology and Church History from the University of Notre Dame. Ed lives in Miami with his wife, Mary, who was born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica. They have four adult children and three granddaughters.

We focus on Latin America and the Caribbean and are one of the few that provide a platform for other subject matter experts to plug into that enables all of us to optimize our effectiveness and truly solve the multidimensional problems of poverty. This is what sets us apart from other NGOs. We understand that poverty isn’t just about food – it’s multidimensional. It can be about health, education and, of course, the spirit. Having all these elements come together is critically important to us. Lives depend on our effectiveness and efficiency and our donors will only give to us if they trust that we can do this.
