Food For The Poor is Creating a #GivingTuesday Tradition
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (Nov. 21, 2017) For the sixth consecutive year, Food For The Poor will participate in #GivingTuesday. Recognized on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, it’s a day set aside to inspire people to collaborate in ways to improve their communities and to give back in meaningful ways.
On Nov. 28, Food For The Poor’s #GivingTuesday fundraising goal will be to raise enough funds to provide 24 homes in 24 hours for poor families.
The two dozen homes will help to transform the lives of children such as Eva, who lives with her mom in Nicaragua in a tiny shack that’s on the verge of collapsing. Here is Eva’s story: www.FoodForThePoor.org/givinghomes.
“When you give a gift of a home in Jamaica, Honduras or Nicaragua, your gift will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $100,000 on this special day of giving,” said Angel Aloma, Food For The Poor Executive Director. “Every act of kindness and every donation means so much more when we give together. As Food For The Poor gears up for this annual event, we want to thank everyone for their support with this campaign. Our loving donors educate, provide clean water, food and shelter year-round for the desperately poor and we deeply appreciate their generosity.”
In 2016, millions of people in 98 countries came together to give back and to support the causes they believe in on #GivingTuesday. According to 92Y, the cultural center in New York City that conceptualized the #GivingTuesday Movement, more than $177 million was raised online to benefit a broad range of charitable organizations worldwide. Much more has been given in volunteer hours, in the donation of goods and acts of kindness on that global day of giving.
Instead of battling the crowds on Black Friday or searching the web for online gifts on Cyber Monday, create a new tradition and visit www.FoodForThePoor.org/givingtuesday to support the charity’s #GivingTuesday initiative and help provide a family with a safe and secure home.
Food For The Poor, one of the largest international relief and development organizations in the nation, does much more than feed millions of the hungry poor primarily in 17 countries of the Caribbean and Latin America. This interdenominational Christian ministry provides emergency relief assistance, clean water, medicines, educational materials, homes, support for orphans and the aged, skills training and micro-enterprise development assistance. Over the last 10 years, fundraising and other administrative costs averaged less than 5 percent of our expenses; more than 95 percent of all donations went directly to programs that help the poor.
