Food For The Poor Donors Break #GivingTuesday Record: 48-Hour Campaign Raises Funds to Build 249 Homes
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (Dec. 5, 2019) Two hundred and forty-nine homes will be built for destitute families in the Caribbean and Latin America, thanks to the generous support of Food For The Poor donors on #GivingTuesday.
“Our campaign goal for #GivingTuesday was 48 homes in 48 hours, with a $750,000 housing match,” said Food For The Poor Executive Director Angel Aloma. “We gratefully exceeded our goal, and thanks to our donors and the match, 249 families will receive safe and secure homes. We want to thank everyone for their generous donations. Our hearts are filled with gratitude.”
Soon, families like Johana’s with her four young children in Santa Bárbara, Honduras, will no longer have to worry about their home flooding when it rains, or sleeping in a damp and unhealthy environment. #GivingTuesday is one way to help the charity to build two-bedroom homes for the desperately poor.
For eight consecutive years, Food For The Poor has participated in #GivingTuesday, celebrated on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. It is a way to bring awareness to the plight of families in dire need and to make a positive impact during the holiday season.
Since inception, Food For The Poor has built more than 85,000 homes. These homes not only transformed the lives of the families receiving them, but construction of these homes also provides a source of much-needed work for local laborers.
