Hope For Haitians 5K Walk/Run will Provide 250 Children with Scholarships
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (May 12, 2016) Nearly 250 participants took part in the fifth annual Hope For Haitians 5K Walk/Run for Education in Geneva, Illinois on May 7, raising enough to send 250 children in Haiti to school for a year. In addition to paying for the students’ tuition, the event proceeds also will cover a year’s worth of uniforms, socks, shoes and school supplies.
“This is a beautiful gift the participants in the Hope For Haitians 5K Walk/Run are helping to supply to the school children in Haiti,” said Angel Aloma, Executive Director of Food For The Poor. “We feel strongly that education is important in breaking the cycle of poverty. We’re thankful for the 15 years of loving service Hope For Haitians has provided to the people of Haiti through Food For The Poor.”
The course in Geneva, Ill., was USA Track and Field certified and chip-timed. This year’s fastest male was Aidan King, 14, with a time of 19:11, and the fastest female was Alice Abbott, 13, with a time of 21:45.
