Three Wise Boys Demonstrate The Spirit of Giving
CHOWCHILLA, Ca. (Nov. 17, 2009) – Three young brothers are on a mission to collect and recycle bottles to earn money to purchase chickens through Food For The Poor’s gift catalog. In the spirit of true Christmas giving, the boys plan to use the money they have saved to shop for a worthy cause and change lives.
“Our boys ask everyone they meet for their cans and bottles,” said Kristin Scott, the boys’ mother. “When we were in Mexico on a mission trip our eldest son, Noah, wanted to stop the bus so he could gather the recyclable items alongside the road, and bring them back across the border to turn in for money.”
The boys’ involvement began when their parents, Charles and Kristin Scott, asked them to remember what their grandparents gave them last year for Christmas. The silence confirmed the short-lived excitement over the multitude of presents received Christmas morning.
This year, Noah, 7, Jordan, 6, and Zachary, 4, will ask their grandparents for a book or a puzzle, and money to buy items from Food For The Poor’s catalog. Gifts offered in Food For The Poor’s gift catalog epitomize the spirit of giving – and are intended for those who need them so desperately.
“The boys wanted to do this all on their own,” said Charles Scott. “They truly have servants’ hearts.”
Their dedication thus far has raised enough money to buy approximately 280 chickens for a poor family. The gift of baby chicks will provide a sustainable source of protein from eggs, and help to prevent the devastating effects of malnutrition.
The boys’ goal for next year is to give a family a “fresh start” in life. For $3,582, a family will receive a new house, latrine, rice and beans for one full year, a small-business project to help provide a source of income, school supplies for two children (including books and uniforms), clothing and shoes.
