What Would You Do If You Had Nothing To Feed Your Children?
In Haiti, 4-year-old Roberson has lived with the pain of hunger every day of his young life. The few spoonfuls of boiled leaves and watery broth is not enough to fill the constant ache in his empty belly. But it is all his mother had to give.
Marie, 40, is a single mother struggling to feed and care for Roberson and his siblings. She has no way to earn an income and the little support she gets from the father of her children is not enough to feed her entire family.
Marie does the best she can but desperately worries about the little amount of food they eat. Some days, there are small pieces of fruit they can all share. Other days, she finds enough herbs and leaves to boil into watery broth in hopes of filling their empty bellies.
But it is never enough to stop their suffering. When desperation sets in, Marie heads out into the streets to beg strangers for money to buy food.
“I feel so helpless and powerless,” she said, “having to depend on other people, and even on my children. I am the mother. I should be taking care of them, not the other way around.”
You can help ease the pain of hunger for children by helping to answer their prayers for food. Your loving gift will provide lifesaving meals of rice and beans for starving children like Roberson.
