A Place to Call Home: Food For The Poor Aims to Bring Hope and Healing to Vulnerable Children in Need
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (August 4, 2025) – Food For The Poor (FFTP) has launched its “A Place to Call Home” month-long digital campaign to connect 100 sponsors with children in Angels Of Hope (AOH)-supported homes across Latin America and the Caribbean. Throughout August, donors can give $34 a month to help provide safe shelter, nutritious meals, clothing, school supplies, health care, and emotional and spiritual support in a loving environment.
“Every child deserves more than just a roof over their head – they deserve a place where they can feel secure, loved, and valued,” FFTP President/CEO Ed Raine said. “Angels Of Hope gives children a loving, joyful home, and the foundation to build a brighter future.”
It was an AOH home that put 25-year-old Rey, of Honduras, on a path of hope and happiness. Rey was only 6 months old when his mother gave him away and sent his life spiraling downward. From living with two unstable families to landing on the streets as an 11-year-old, he faced a world without safety or stability.
Thankfully, he found the care he needed in an AOH-supported group home.
“They not only gave me shelter – they listened to me, and understood my fears and dreams,” Rey said. “I was able to rebuild my life, discover my true potential, and find a greater purpose.”
Today, Rey, who studied Hospitality and Tourism at the Sampedrano Institute of Technology, is working for a new airline in Honduras. He’s looking forward to someday becoming a commercial aircraft pilot and an entrepreneur. Rey’s story is a testament to what is possible when vulnerable children receive the love, care, and encouragement they need.
“Through this home, I found the emotional support and opportunities that propelled me forward,” he said.
Since its founding in 2003, AOH has provided much-needed aid to group homes to improve the living conditions and well-being of children coming from extreme poverty, abuse, or the threat of human trafficking. The AOH program currently supports 8,228 children in 87 children’s homes in Haiti, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Colombia, and Peru.
Unfortunately, the demand for assistance continues to grow, with more than 2,800 children currently in AOH homes awaiting sponsorship. Support is urgently needed to sustain and expand critical services.
“Through Angels Of Hope, we are giving children a second chance at life,” Raine said. “The level of care and structure these homes provide ensures they have the best possible chance of breaking the cycle of poverty, but we need more sponsors to continue this work to help even more children.”
Angels Of Hope sponsors gain as much as they give. By providing financial support that covers essential items, services, and special projects unique to each group home, AOH donors personally touch the lives of the children they sponsor. They also are encouraged to correspond with their sponsored children and create a sense of connection and care that supports each child’s emotional well-being.
“Caring for vulnerable children brings an opportunity for personal growth and transformation,” Raine said. “As the children grow and flourish, so do their sponsors who give from a place of compassion and concern. They are changing lives by supporting a place where children receive the nurturing care they need to reach their full potential.”
In addition to launching the month-long campaign, FFTP has partnered with Angélica María and her daughter, Angélica Vale, two celebrities known and loved across the Spanish-speaking world.
Singer-songwriter Angélica María, the “Latina Queen of Comedy” and Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award-winner, sponsors three girls through AOH. Her daughter, Angélica Vale – known for her past starring role in “La Fea Más Bella” – hosts La Vale Show on Cali 93.9 FM and has a 40-year career in theater, TV, radio, and film.
“As Angels Of Hope Ambassadors, they will share the message that every child deserves love, protection, and opportunity,” Raine said. “Their voices, platforms, and personal investment in supporting our program will help us reach new audiences and inspire trust and connection.”
