Food For The Poor Honors Veterans on Veterans Day: Veterans, Volunteers Team Up to Pack Hygiene Kits for Veterans in Need
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (Nov. 8, 2023) – Food For The Poor (FFTP) is hosting its annual Honor Our Veterans Community Day Event on Saturday, Nov. 11, dedicated to showing the charity’s deep appreciation for veterans.
The special day will kick off at 10 a.m. at the charity’s Coconut Creek headquarters, 6401 Lyons Road, with a program recognizing members of local veterans’ organizations as well as FFTP team members who have served.
Lt. Cmdr. Adonica Johnson will be the keynote speaker. She currently serves at U.S. Southern Command in Miami with the Commander’s Action Group as a Special Assistant to the Combatant Commander.
After the program, guests will move to the charity’s warehouse from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. to pack 1,000 hygiene kits that will go to poverty-stricken families in the countries FFTP helps and to help veterans in need in South Florida.
Volunteers with Team Rubicon, an organization started by veterans to help with disasters, will be among the attendees.
Jersey Mike’s Subs, which will have a team of employees packing kits, is sponsoring the event.
During the 90-minute packing session, volunteers will fill the kits with basic necessities – soap, deodorant, toothbrushes, and toothpaste – items that most people take for granted every day but are desperately needed by children and families in times of crisis.
FFTP President/CEO Ed Raine said the charity is honored to have the opportunity to honor veterans and to give everyone a hands-on way to give back to others in need.
“It is our way of showing our unwavering support for our veterans who have served our nation with honor and bravery,” Raine said. “We want to make sure that those who have sacrificed so much for our country receive the care and appreciation they deserve.”
