Food For The Poor Donors Provide More Than 8.8 Million Meals on Giving Tuesday
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (December 5, 2024) – Food For The Poor (FFTP) donors demonstrated extraordinary generosity this Giving Tuesday, providing enough funds to deliver more than 8.8 million lifesaving meals to children and families facing hunger.
Through a generous matching gift from longtime partner Feed My Starving Children, every dollar donated was tripled to ensure even more meals reached children suffering from malnutrition. This effort will help save lives and bring hope to families facing hunger.
“The generosity of our donors never ceases to inspire us,” FFTP President/CEO Ed Raine said. “Giving Tuesday is about the power of coming together, and this year’s response is a testament to the compassion of those who believe in our mission. These meals will be a lifeline for families struggling to survive.”
This support comes at a critical time. According to the World Food Program USA, more than 350 million children in the world live in extreme poverty, leaving them vulnerable to hunger every day.
In Latin America and the Caribbean, food insecurity affects 247.8 million people, including 43 million who suffer from hunger, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization reported.
Despite some recovery from the pandemic’s setbacks, food insecurity in the region remains higher than pre-pandemic levels. FFTP’s lifesaving meals are a beacon of hope in these communities, ensuring vulnerable children and families do not face hunger alone.
Since its inception in 2012, Giving Tuesday has encouraged people worldwide to come together to improve their communities and support causes close to their hearts. For more than a decade, FFTP has been part of this global movement, with donors providing:
- • Over 8.6 million meals in 2023
- • 9.4 million meals in 2022
- • $2.2 million in MannaPack rice meals from Feed My Starving Children and 100 homes in 2021
Food For The Poor, one of the largest international relief and development organizations in the nation, does much more than feed millions of hungry children and families living in poverty primarily in 15 countries of Latin America and the Caribbean. This interdenominational Christian ministry provides emergency relief assistance, water, medicine, educational materials, homes, support for vulnerable children, care for the aged, skills training and micro-enterprise development assistance.
