Honduras Bridge Dedicated in Honor of CEPUDO’s Linda Coello
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (April 2, 2025) – In a tribute to her decades of service to the people of Honduras, Linda Coello, Founder and President of CEPUDO and a member of Food For The Poor’s (FFTP) Board of Directors, was honored with the dedication of the Linda Coello Bridge on Friday in San Pedro Sula.
The new span, located over the Santa Ana River, extends the Jardines del Valle Boulevard and will improve the daily commutes of approximately 80,000 drivers in the city’s Northwest sector.
The bridge was officially named after Coello following a public vote during the third open city council meeting at the Plaza de las Banderas, recognizing her exceptional dedication to serving vulnerable communities.
Last year, Coello, a San Pedro Sula native, was named Valmoral 2024 Character of the Year for her outstanding service to the community.
“For me, it is a great honor, and I feel so much gratitude first to the Lord and to the people who thought of naming this beautiful bridge after me,” Coello said. “Each person on the CEPUDO staff and the volunteers of the chapters have a piece of this because, without them, this would be impossible. I think it’s the largest bridge in Honduras, and it will help so many people from different communities avoid traffic and prevent many accidents.”
The dedication ceremony, which included the unveiling of a plaque bearing Coello’s name, was attended by government officials, community leaders and residents.
Speaking from Florida, FFTP President/CEO Ed Raine said the dedication is a powerful symbol of the lasting impact of Coello’s servant leadership.
“A bridge is more than just a structure. It’s a connection between communities and people,” Raine said. “Linda Coello’s work with CEPUDO has built bridges of hope for those in need, and this dedication is a fitting tribute to her vision and compassion. Her leadership ensures that no one is left behind, and we are proud to stand beside her in serving the people of Honduras.”
Through CEPUDO, FFTP’s longtime and trusted partner in Honduras, Coello has led initiatives to provide food, housing, education, vocational training, and emergency relief to vulnerable communities. Her leadership has been especially vital during times of crisis, including delivering lifesaving aid during natural disasters.
“This recognition would not have happened without the trust and support FFTP has in CEPUDO,” Coello said. “Just watching families live with dignity and solidarity makes all our efforts worthwhile.”
