Food For The Poor Packs Meals to Honor Parkland Victims
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (Jan. 14, 2020) Food For The Poor is partnering with the City of Parkland and Feed My Starving Children for a special food packing event to honor the victims of the deadly shooting two years ago at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
Businesses, churches and community groups will gather to pack more than 116,000 meals for Haiti at the MSD Community Commemoration on February 14 at Parkland Recreation and Enrichment Center, 10559 Trails End, Parkland.
The packing sessions will be from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Food For The Poor President/CEO Ed Raine said the charity is part of the community and wants to be part of the healing. Several staff members have children who attend the school or did so at the time of the shooting. Food For The Poor is headquartered in Coconut Creek, which borders Parkland.
“We’re honored to participate in an event that reminds us about the lives we lost and brings together a community in search of healing,” Raine said.
Last year, a team from Food For The Poor was among dozens that packed more than 700,000 meals over two days on the first anniversary of the shooting.
At the upcoming event, volunteers will fill plastic bags with cups of white rice and soy, scoops of freeze-dried vegetables, and flavoring containing essential vitamins and nutrients. The MannaPack ingredients are provided by Feed My Starving Children.
There is no cost to participate, but donations will be accepted at the event. To sign up, please visit: www.FoodForThePoor.org/parkland.
