Hope For Haitians’ 5K Walk/Run is Changing Lives with Every Step

COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (May 31, 2013) – More than 300 people gathered for the second annual Hope For Haitians 5K Walk/Run For Education fundraiser. The May 11 event took place at the Kane County Government Center in Geneva, Ill. Supporters in this year’s event are making an impact on the lives of the children living in villages built by Hope For Haitians in partnership with the international relief and development organization Food For The Poor.
“There’s no such thing as a free education for children in Haiti. One of the first steps necessary to break the cycle of poverty is a basic education,” said Angel Aloma, Executive Director of Food For The Poor. “We are extremely thankful to all who made the 5K Walk/Run in Geneva, Ill., a success because the funds raised from this annual event will help us to provide many of Haiti’s children with an opportunity to receive that education.”
Thanks to the participants, sponsors and volunteers, children who reside in “Hope Friendship Village” and “Rockford Friendship Village” in Haiti will receive the educational assistance needed to attend school for one year. The students also will receive uniforms, socks, shoes, and enough basic school supplies for a year.
The fundraising for the Hope For Haitians 5K Walk/Run For Education will officially wrap up on Monday, June 3 with a party at McNally’s Traditional Irish Pub, located at 109 West Main Street in St. Charles, Ill., from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. To make a secure online donation toward the Hope For Haitians projects, at anytime, please visit www.FoodForThePoor.org/rockford or www.HopeForHaitians.org.
