Food For The Poor Honors Boca Grande Couple for Helping Haiti
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (Feb. 26, 2018) Ben and Louise Scott, Chairpersons of Boca Grande Hope For Haitians, were honored by Food For The Poor with the Ambassadors For The Poor Award on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018. The Scotts received the award at the ninth annual Boca Grande Hope For Haitians cocktail and hors d’oeuvres reception at the Gasparilla Inn Beach Club in Boca Grande, Fla.
“It’s nice that Food For The Poor has recognized Louise and I, because they are a phenomenal organization that accomplishes so much in the 17 countries where they serve,” Ben Scott said. “Although we received this award, none of what we do would be possible without the Hope For Haitians Committee that has encouraged Boca Grande residents to support our projects in Haiti. This is a great blessing from our Lord, knowing that we are pleasing Him by loving our neighbors.”
The Scotts began building homes with the Boca Grande Hope For Haitians Committee through Food For The Poor in 2009, and have built more than 300 homes throughout the Caribbean nation.Their latest project will include 50 homes in the remote area of Savann Kabrit, which is east of Port-au-Prince, near the border of the Dominican Republic.
“Ben, Louise and the Hope For Haitians Committee are an amazing group of people who are making a tremendous impact in Haiti,” said Food For The Poor Executive Director Angel Aloma. “Because of their generosity, hundreds of families are no longer living in dirt-floor huts, but in secure homes with sanitation and access to clean water. Children are attending school and parents are able to provide for their families. These are all priceless gifts and we cannot thank them enough for all that they do.”
The Hope For Haitians reception also featured a silent auction of authentic Haitian artwork, including jewelry, paintings and sculptures. The event generated enough donations for 28 homes, but the committee is actively fundraising to reach their goal of 50 homes, which will help 50 families escape inhumane living conditions in Savann Kabrit.
