Donors Provide the Poor with Beautiful Blessings on #GivingTuesday
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (Nov. 29, 2018) Thanks to the generous support of Food For The Poor donors on #GivingTuesday, hundreds of homes will be built for poor families in parts of the Caribbean and Latin America.
“Our original campaign goal for #GivingTuesday was 48 homes in 48 hours, with a match, and I am extremely happy because we have exceeded that goal and raised enough funds to build 113 homes,” said Food For The Poor Executive Director Angel Aloma. “Thanks to a housing match, a total of 226 homes will be built. Our hearts are filled with the deepest of gratitude knowing that destitute families will have the beautiful blessing of a safe and secure home.”
Since inception, Food For The Poor has built more than 76,700 safe and secure homes. These homes not only benefit the families receiving them, but construction of these homes also provides a source of much-needed work for local laborers.
For the seventh consecutive year, Food For The Poor participated in #GivingTuesday, celebrated on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. The day has been set aside to inspire people to collaborate and to give back in meaningful ways.
Food For The Poor started the day of giving with Aloma live on the national show “Seize the Day” on Sirius Radio hosted by Gus Lloyd. Dozens of the show’s listeners called in and donated gifts for the poor in honor of their loved ones from the charity’s Christmas catalog.
For example, James in Minnesota donated $100 for three little pigs, Juan in Texas donated $900 to feed three families for a year, and Kathy in North Carolina made a donation of $1,000 in memory of her late husband to be used to help the poor.
“We understand that this year is especially challenging for many of our supporters due to the natural disasters impacting parts of the United States, so we give thanks to God and to everyone for remembering the poor this #GivingTuesday and throughout the year,” Aloma said.
