Food For The Poor Update on Relief

Executive Director Angel Aloma will give a 7 p.m. update to the press on Wednesday, Jan. 20. Aloma will talk about the charity’s relief activities and will answer questions. Interviews also will be available with team members Liony Batista and Rachmani Domersant.

SANTO DOMINGO, D.R. (Jan. 19, 2010) – Relief supplies are continuing to flow over the D.R. border and through Cap-Haitien to those suffering from hunger, thirst, and lack of shelter since the earthquake. Angel Aloma, executive director of Food For The Poor, will update members of the press corps in the Dominican Republic on what is being sent, how much and how it is getting directly into the hands of the hurting in Port-au-Prince and in Cap-Haitien, where thousands of displaced Haitians are fleeing. Aloma then will go with teams to Port-au-Prince to meet up with additional staff.

Liony Batista, a country projects manager for Food For The Poor, will be able to brief reporters on logistics and coordinate further coverage in Port-au-Prince of relief distribution. Rachmani Domersant, who was in Port-au-Prince during the quake and left to be with a hospitalized staff member in the D.R., will be able to brief reporters on the quake as well as on actions taken since then to start the recovery.
