Cash Donations: Not the Only Way to Help the Poor
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (Nov. 15, 2019) Philanthropy comes in many forms, but noncash assets often are an overlooked option that can increase the impact of charitable giving and maximize tax benefits at the same time.
Unwanted jewelry, vehicles and gift cards are just some of the personal assets that can be donated through iDonate to help Food For The Poor provide assistance to families in desperate need in the Caribbean and Latin America.
“Food For The Poor has partnered with iDonate in order to widen our possibilities of helping the poor,” said Food For The Poor Executive Director Angel Aloma. “It also gives our donors the opportunity to give in ways that may be more convenient for them.”
Items donated through iDonate are sold on Food For The Poor’s behalf and the net proceeds are given to the charity. iDonate provides the giver receipts for their gifts.
Food For The Poor also continues to accept many forms of noncash donations directly through the organization’s Gifts In Kind Department. These GIK donations are shipped and distributed to beneficiaries in the countries where Food For The Poor serves.
These donations are given directly to the charity and are gifts that have been primarily donated in large volume, or are large items that are suitable for use in the countries served by Food For The Poor.

Food For The Poor, one of the largest international relief and development organizations in the nation, does much more than feed millions of the hungry poor primarily in 17 countries of the Caribbean and Latin America. This interdenominational Christian ministry provides emergency relief assistance, clean water, medicine, educational materials, homes, support for orphaned or abandoned children, care for the aged, skills training and micro-enterprise development assistance.
