Orlando Gala Offers New Hope for Impoverished Families in Haiti
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (Oct. 10, 2018) The dream of a safe home with access to clean water and sanitation will become a reality for 48 families in Duthil, Thomazeau, Haiti, thanks to 175 guests who attended Food For The Poor’s 19th Annual Celebration of Hope Gala on Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Rosen Shingle Creek, Orlando.
Orlando Gala Committee Chair Dr. Lynne Nasrallah and Orlando-area philanthropists raised enough funds for 26 homes during the gala, but because of a Food For The Poor housing match, they have exceeded their original goal for 30 homes by an additional 22 homes, which will bless 22 additional families.
“The communities we serve are sincerely grateful for what Food For The Poor does and what you, the donors, do for them year after year,” Nasrallah said. “We become a channel of God’s love, and each donor becomes truly a guardian angel to the poor.”
Nasrallah spoke about the joy she experienced in the villages of Jaboin and Chantal while on last month’s mission trip with the charity, and also of the needs in the Duthil community.

Harris Rosen, President/COO of the Rosen Hotels & Resorts, who has nine properties in Orlando, including Rosen Shingle Creek, was recognized with the Ambassador For The Poor Award by Robin Mahfood, President/CEO of Food For The Poor, for the countless ways Rosen and his foundation have changed the lives of some of the poorest of the poor in Haiti.
Rosen was unable to attend the event, so the award was accepted by Eldine Magnan who represents Rosen’s partnership in Haiti with Food For The Poor. She played a recorded interview of Rosen who thanked the charity for what he says is a great honor: www.FoodForThePoor.org/rosenthankyouvideo.
“I am touched by the level of compassion the Orlando community has for the poor in Haiti,” Mahfood said. “It takes a lot of hard work, a lot of resources and most importantly, very many prayers to make a difference in the world. We cannot thank Dr. Lynne enough for what she’s doing to help transform the lives of destitute families in Haiti.”
The 19th Annual Celebration of Hope Gala featured cocktails, a silent auction, dinner and dancing. One of the highlights of the event was the live house rally.
