Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Visits Food For The Poor

COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (June 29, 2015) – Today, Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs visited Food For The Poor headquarters in Coconut Creek, Fla. Ray H.W. Mou, Director-General of the Department of NGO International Affairs, is no stranger to the relief and development organization.

When he served as the Director General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Miami, from November 2010 to April 2013, he oversaw many joint initiatives with the charity to help the poor. In addition to working with Food For The Poor on emergency relief projects, Mou and other Taiwan partners assisted with self-sustaining initiatives, which included in-country production of food through agriculture, farm-raised fish and livestock breeding.

“We are very thankful for Ray Mou’s friendship and his support of Food For The Poor,” said Robin Mahfood, President/CEO of Food For The Poor. “For more than a decade, Taiwan has been a wonderful supporter of this organization, providing life-saving food for hundreds of thousands people in Haiti and many other countries. On behalf of all those we serve, we are grateful for this generosity.”

Mou also was accompanied by Adolfo Sun, Consular Officer of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Miami. Mou and Mahfood once again exchanged gifts solidifying their commitment to continue to work together to find better solutions for those who live in poverty.

Forty trailer loads of rice are enroute to Haiti from the ports of Taipei, thanks to the kindness of Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This first shipment of 2,400 metric tons of rice is expected to reach Port-au-Prince by the second week in July. The gift of rice translates into more than 63 million meals for the hungry.

Food For The Poor, named by The Chronicle of Philanthropy as the largest international relief and development organization in the nation, does much more than feed millions of the hungry poor in 17 countries of the Caribbean and Latin America. This interdenominational Christian ministry provides emergency relief assistance, clean water, medicines, educational materials, homes, support for orphans and the aged, skills training and micro-enterprise development assistance, with more than 95 percent of all donations going directly to programs that help the poor.
