Virtual Walk/Run For Hunger, a Step in the Right Direction
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (July 27, 2020) Food For The Poor’s first-ever virtual event will provide almost 400,000 meals for families affected by the coronavirus in the Caribbean and Latin America. More than 120 people from across the United States participated in the charity’s Virtual Walk/Run for Hunger.
Due to social distancing requirements, Food For The Poor decided a virtual race was the safest alternative for runners and walkers to complete a 5K, 10K or half marathon over a four-week period. Participants’ efforts exceeded the charity’s goal of 336,000 lifesaving meals.
“This pandemic is proving to be a formidable force that’s taking aim at everyone, but families in the countries where we serve are being hit especially hard,” said Angel Aloma, Food For The Poor’s Executive Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer. “We want to express our sincerest gratitude to everyone who donated their time to fundraise through our Virtual Walk/Run For Hunger Event. It’s amazing the amount of good we can accomplish when we work together for a common cause.”
Weekly social media giveaways helped motivate participants, who posted photos of themselves in action with the hashtag #WalkRunForHunger. The top 10 fundraisers received a custom Walk/Run For Hunger medal, and the top five fundraisers also received a custom medal and a $50 Amazon gift card.
Event sponsors were Florida Aquastore, the Calmark Group, Hormel Foods and ResourceOne.
The charity’s next virtual event, National Celebration — We Are One, will be held on August 13. To learn more, please contact the Special Events Team at 1-888-404-4248 or email [email protected].
