Food For The Poor Helps Mexican Flood Victims
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (January 16, 2009) – Food For The Poor, the nation’s largest international aid and development agency, has sent more than 17 tons of relief supplies to Mexico to help people still affected by devastating floods.
In November 2007, heavy rains over the Mexican state of Tabasco brought the worst flooding the region had seen in decades. Nearly a half-million people were forced from their homes and the area’s crops were destroyed.
Starting in 2008 and continuing now, Food For The Poor, along with its partner, the Order of Malta, is distributing 15,200 pounds of medicines and pharmaceuticals and more than 19,500 pounds of groceries and household goods to the flood victims.
“We had sent a shipment of relief supplies last October, “ said Food For The Poor’s Executive Director, Angel Aloma. “But the flooding caused so much damage and heartache that we knew we had to do more.”
Food For The Poor plans to expand its presence in Mexico and continue to bring help to flood victims and the poor.
Food For The Poor is the largest international relief and development organization in the nation. With more than 96% of all donations going directly to programs that help those in need, Food For The Poor provides nourishing food, safe shelter, necessary medical care, educational materials, support for orphans and the aged, and much more to the poorest of the poor in 17 countries in the Caribbean and Latin America.
