24 Homes in 24 Hours: Give a #GivingTuesday Gift that Gives Back
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (Nov. 28, 2016) The holiday shopping season is in full force. Instead of dealing with crowds at the mall, or searching the web for the perfect online gift, Food For the Poor is urging shoppers to remember the destitute with a gift toward a new home on #GivingTuesday.
The aftermath of Hurricane Matthew has been devastating in Haiti. The homes of more than 120,000 poor Haitian families were destroyed or severely damaged by the violent storm on Oct. 4. Many were left homeless and vulnerable.
A new safe and secure Food For The Poor home can end the suffering of poor Haitians.
On #GivingTuesday, Food For The Poor aims to raise enough money for 24 homes in 24 hours. The goal is part of a larger campaign by the charity to build 1,000 new housing units in 100 days in Haiti.
Special housing matches will fuel Food For The Poor’s ability to help change the dire circumstances of destitute families. Generous friends of Food For The Poor have offered to match any gift received to build homes in Haiti through this campaign. This means that every gift received to build a home in Haiti will be matched dollar-for-dollar.

Homes built by Food For The Poor in Haiti have concrete block walls, poured concrete floors and zinc roofs with hurricane straps. They also are earthquake resistant. Many homes built by the charity survived Hurricane Matthew with only roof damage and became shelters for others both during and after the storm.
This is the fifth consecutive year Food For The Poor has participated in #GivingTuesday.
As part of Food For The Poor’s support of #GivingTuesday, Food For The Poor Executive Director Angel Aloma will do a live broadcast with national Catholic radio host Gus Lloyd’s Seize the Day program at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29 on Sirius XM Satellite Radio’s Channel 129, The Catholic Channel.
