400 Backpacks are Heading to Guyana, Thanks to Bankers Healthcare Group
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (Aug. 3, 2018) Dozens of Bankers Healthcare Group employees transformed their breakroom into an assembly line of school supplies as they worked in harmony to stuff 400 backpacks with notebooks, pencils and other supplies at their offices in Davie, Fla., on Thursday.
The “BHG Cares Crew” beamed with pride knowing that children in 11 orphanages throughout Guyana soon will reap the benefits of their hard work as they stuffed each bag.
“We love helping people and we love everything that Food For The Poor is doing,” said Bankers Healthcare Group Sofia Castro. “Our partnership is a nice fit because we know that our backpacks have gone to the children who needed them in past, and we know that these backpacks are going to go to the children who need them in Guyana.”
The provider of financial solutions for healthcare professionals has donated nearly 2,000 backpacks with supplies to the charity. The partnership began in 2015 to honor the life of Peter “Tato” Estrada, who lost his battle with cancer that year. Estrada, who was committed to helping children in need, was the brother of Sofia Castro.
“Many of the children in our homes are receiving emotional, physical and spiritual support from our staff, but education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty,” said Food For The Poor Angels Of Hope Director Tricia Lujambio. “The support we’re receiving from Bankers Healthcare Group is wonderful, and these backpacks and school supplies will help open the door to these children’s future.”
Food For The Poor’s Angels Of Hope child sponsorship program provides loving care, food, clothing, shelter and an education for more than 7,000 children in 176 orphanages throughout the Caribbean and Latin America. Click Angels Of Hope to learn more about the program.
