Boca Grande’s Hope For Haitians Six Homes Away from 27-Home Goal
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (April 6, 2016) – With the start of the 2016 hurricane season less than two months away, Boca Grande’s Hope For Haitians Committee is on a mission to complete its fundraising goal for Friendship Village VI, in Gressier, Haiti, through the international relief and development organization Food For The Poor.
“It’s hard to believe that the arrival of hurricane season is only weeks away. It would be wonderful to have these families’ homes near completion before the official start of the storm season,” said Angel Aloma, Executive Director of Food For The Poor. “We are so very grateful for the fantastic work the Boca Grande Hope For Haitians is doing to transform the lives of families in Haiti. We can’t thank them enough.”
In February, Ben Scott addressed the Boca Grande Committee members at their annual fundraising event. It was there that he revealed plans to build an additional 27 two-room homes and a community center in Friendship Village VI.
“The gratefulness of the Haitian people has touched my heart in a very special way, and it’s very important to us that we don’t leave behind any of the families for whom we promised to build homes. We are very proud to have raised enough to cover the cost of 21 homes,” said Scott, Chairman of Boca Grande Hope For Haitians. “We are only six homes away from our 27-home goal and we’re asking for your help to reach it.”
Scott, along with his wife Louise, and Boca Grande Committee members Lou and Corie Fusz, attended the dedication of Friendship Village V in Gressier on Jan.13. They were greeted by a group of jubilant residents from that new community of 33 concrete block homes.
The sixth village will provide a community center and an additional 27 families with two-room houses, which will include kitchenettes, sanitation units and water cisterns. Each family will be given a solar-powered light kit, and the village will be provided with two solar-powered street lamps. These homes will be built in the same community as the 33 homes of Friendship Village V that the Boca Grande Committee built last year, for a total of 60 homes in this Gressier community.
