FFTP, King’s Ransom Foundation, Beachside Community in Texas Unite for Transformative Housing Project in Honduras
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (Jan. 29, 2025) – Representatives from Food For The Poor (FFTP), King’s Ransom Foundation, and the Texas Gulf Coast community of Beachside recently traveled to Honduras to celebrate the groundbreaking for Matagorda Village, a community development project that will provide safer homes for 35 families currently living in hazardous conditions.
Beachside is the name of a new waterfront community being built by developer Stuart Lynn, a resident of Matagorda County, Texas. A portion of the proceeds from every lot sale at Beachside is being donated to develop Matagorda Village.
“Thanks to the contributions of the Beachside community, Matagorda Village – a waterfront community in Honduras for those in extreme poverty – is becoming a reality,” Lynn said. “I want to personally thank everyone who continues to make this incredible impact possible.”
Key Highlights:
• The village in Honduras will include a sewage system, a water distribution line, street lighting, rainwater drainage, and a community center.
• Each home will feature two bedrooms, a family area, a bathroom, a kitchen with a chimney, and essential furnishings, including eco stoves and fruit trees.
• Families will actively contribute to the construction process, fostering ownership and pride in their new community.
• Initiatives aimed at improving economic opportunities will be integrated to ensure long-term community stability and growth.
Dr. April Brown, board member and treasurer of King’s Ransom Foundation, described the groundbreaking ceremony in Honduras as a deeply emotional reminder of the transformative power of hope and collaboration.
“As we walked up to the construction site, the people being helped were there clapping as we approached reminded me that this is what hope fulfilled looks like,” Brown said. “These are men, women, and children that have waited for this moment for over eight years. I am honored and grateful for the opportunity to partner with Beachside and Food For The Poor and to have represented King’s Ransom Foundation at the groundbreaking for Matagorda Village.”
Mauricio, a 60-year-old resident of Miramar, Honduras, has resided in a small house with five family members for the past 12 years. Residents of the fishing community are often displaced by flooding.
“We continuously pray to God for His blessings, particularly for a decent house, because currently, we are all crowded into one room,” Mauricio said. “Unfortunately, our area is prone to flooding, and it becomes infested with mosquitoes. We are grateful for your visit to assess our needs, and we humbly ask for your assistance, along with God’s blessings.”
FFTP President/CEO Ed Raine said Matagorda Village is a testament to what can be achieved when organizations and individuals come together with a shared purpose.
“This project is more than homes,” Raine added. “It’s about dignity, hope, and the opportunity for a brighter future. We are deeply grateful to the King’s Ransom Foundation, Stuart Lynn, and the community of Beachside for their unwavering commitment to transforming lives in Honduras.”
