Food For The Poor Partners with Feed My Starving Children to Help Ukraine
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (March 21, 2022) Food For The Poor is working through Feed My Starving Children, a longtime trusted partner, to help the people of Ukraine as a humanitarian crisis unfolds in the war-torn country.
FFTP will provide support for food aid, which will consist of MannaPack fortified rice meals.
Feed My Starving Children (FMSC), which has worked in Ukraine since 2014, will distribute this desperately needed food through Mission Eurasia, a trusted network of 3,500 pastors based in Ukraine, and other partners.
The recent war has resulted in an exodus of more than 3 million Ukrainians seeking refuge in neighboring countries. In discussions with FFTP, FMSC said most of the people who remain in Ukraine are the most impoverished citizens and elderly who have no means to flee.
“These are the people that we hope to help with this urgently needed food aid,” Food For The Poor President/CEO Ed Raine said. “This is not a short-term situation. Whatever happens, they will not quickly go back to their old lives.”
The relationship between FFTP and the Christian ministry FMSC goes back many years and has grown exponentially. Since 2009, that partnership has added up to almost 1.2 billion meals. While we work together in Ukraine, that aid will continue.
In 2022, FFTP will receive 257 containers of MannaPack from FMSC, or 22 percent of their total supply.
“Feed My Starving Children is going to find the best and most efficient way to get this lifesaving aid to those refugees,” Andy Carr, FMSC’s Vice President of Development and Marketing, said.
“We are honored to partner with Food For the Poor,” Carr said. “This is exactly what God is calling us to do.”
In addition to their regular donations to FFTP’s core mission in the Caribbean and Latin America, the charity is asking donors to make an additional gift to address the dire needs in Ukraine.
“The needs of those we’ve been serving in the other countries have not gone away,” Raine said. “We’re encouraging people who want to make a gift to Food For The Poor to make an additional gift to help us do this lifesaving work in Ukraine. We recognize our donors’ desire to reach out to the suffering poor in Ukraine, and our desire to be good stewards of their donations.”
FMSC has worked in Ukraine for the last eight years following the Russian takeover of Crimea. During that time, FMSC has sent 12.5 million meals to its in-country mission partner in Ukraine.
“They have established a foothold presence in that area that allows us to have confidence that they know who they’re talking to,” Raine said.
Ukraine is the breadbasket of Europe, providing food that is exported to many countries. Because of the war, no crops will be planted or harvested this year.
“This will have worldwide consequences and for a long period of time,” Raine said.
