FFTP’s We Are One Event Provides Over 10 Million Meals for Vulnerable Families
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (Nov. 15, 2022) Food For The Poor has reached its goal of providing more than 10 million meals to families in need in the Caribbean and Latin America, thanks to donors who gave generously during the charity’s third annual National Celebration – We Are One virtual event on Aug. 11.
A special gift-matching challenge means every dollar donated was matched with a dollar’s worth of food, making donors’ gifts from the event go even further. The results so far are enough funds to provide more than 10 million meals to fight malnutrition.
The announcement comes at a critical time as families living in poverty in the countries where FFTP serves face enormous challenges and increasing food insecurity.
As FFTP wraps up its 40th anniversary this year, FFTP President/CEO Ed Raine said the charity has stood as a beacon of hope for families living in poverty in the countries where it helps. He thanked donors for their continued support.
“These lifesaving meals are an answer to the prayers of mothers and fathers who hear the cries of their hungry children,” Raine said. “This year has brought together inflation, global conflicts and lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, combined in some cases with natural disasters, to leave many who were already vulnerable facing something even much worse. Thank you to everyone for helping us provide a helping hand.”
In Haiti, one in five children suffer from malnutrition.
Guatemala, meanwhile, has one of the highest chronic malnutrition rates in the world and the highest in Latin America and the Caribbean. As a result, the prevalence of stunting in children under 5 is one of the highest in the world.
That’s why fortified meals in the form of MannaPack rice meals from longtime partner and event sponsor Feed My Starving Children are so important.
MannaPack is a specially formulated rice meal packed with vitamins and essential nutrients. Once made with boiling water, the meals are like manna from heaven for children and families who are starving and will help fight malnutrition.
BANDED, a Tennessee-based fashion-accessory company that provides three meals to a child in need for every headband sold, was a presenting sponsor for the event.
Other sponsors included radio sponsor Salem Media, Calmark Group, Seaboard Marine and Hormel Foods.
Food For The Poor, one of the largest international relief and development organizations in the nation, does much more than feed millions of hungry children and families living in poverty primarily in 17 countries of the Caribbean and Latin America. This interdenominational Christian ministry provides emergency relief assistance, water, medicine, educational materials, homes, support for vulnerable children, care for the aged, skills training and micro-enterprise development assistance.
