Food For The Poor Releases 2018 Annual Report
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (April 29, 2019) Food For The Poor, one of the largest international relief and development organizations in the United States, provided nearly $900 million in aid in 2018, thanks to the generous support of its donors.
Last year, the charity built 4,253 homes for families in need of safe shelter. That brings the total to more than 83,500 homes since 1982.
“The 2018 Annual Report illustrates how Food For The Poor’s loving donors have given hope and helped to transform the lives of those in desperate need,” said Robin Mahfood, President/CEO of Food For The Poor. “Whether it is feeding the hungry, giving families a desperately needed home and providing clean water, building schools or delivering life-saving medicine, all of these things are truly life-changing.”
Essential donated goods are an integral part of the work of Food For The Poor and are an important contribution to alleviating the suffering of the poor. In 2018, the charity shipped 4,541 containers, which were filled with valuable donated and purchased goods.
The lifesaving and life-transforming items provided by donors included:
- 611 tractor-trailers of medicines and supplies.
- 317 tractor-trailers of school furniture, books and supplies.
- 224 tractor-trailers of clothing and shoes.
More than 25 million lifesaving meals a month were provided to malnourished children and families in 2018. Donors also made it possible for the charity to provide 15,000 meals a day, six days a week to feed the hungry poor at its feeding center in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
Food For The Poor is committed to income-generating projects in the communities where homes are built, giving families the ability to break free of poverty, and other long-term projects such as providing children with an education. In 2018, donors built, repaired or expanded 58 schools.
Food For The Poor, one of the largest international relief and development organizations in the nation, does much more than feed millions of the hungry poor primarily in 17 countries of the Caribbean and Latin America. This interdenominational Christian ministry provides emergency relief assistance, clean water, medicine, educational materials, homes, support for orphaned or abandoned children, care for the aged, skills training and micro-enterprise development assistance.
