Stomp Out Poverty Derby Style at Food For The Poor’s High Heels & Hats

COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (Feb. 15, 2013) –Dust off your Derby hat and slip into your favorite pair of pumps, now is the time to register for Food For The Poor’s High Heels & Hats. The charity’s event includes a 1-mile stroll in high heels, a VIP brunch, a silent auction and an awards ceremony. Sign up online to stomp out poverty on Saturday, April 20, at 9 a.m. at The Summit, 4045 Summit Plaza Drive, Louisville, Ky.
Awards will be given to individuals for the Highest Heels, Biggest Hat, and the Most Fabulous Guy in Heels. Prizes will also be awarded to the top individual fundraiser and the top fundraising team.
Register your walk team at www.FoodForThePoor.org/highheels. On the website, you will find free fundraising tips designed to help you reach your fundraising goal by sharing your ideas with family, friends, co-workers and contact lists. Proceeds from this event will go toward programs that help alleviate poverty in the Caribbean and Latin America.
High Heels & Hats is presented by The Summit and sponsored by Earth Fare; The DNR Group; Splendid Events, LLC; and media partner, Louisville Magazine.
Registration starts at 8 a.m., the walk begins at 9 a.m. and the VIP brunch will immediately follow.
There will be several opportunities to help and have fun before the walk:
- On Thursday, March 21, Crush Boutique will host its annual Derby season kick-off party from 6 to 8 p.m. Individuals who sign up as a member of Team Crush in Food For The Poor’s High Heels & Hats will have the opportunity to earn a team T-shirt, $10 in Crush Bucks, and personal Crush stylist time. Those who register for High Heels & Hats at the party also will be entered to win a custom Derby hat from Crush Boutique, 12123 Shelbyville Road, Louisville, Ky.
- On Wednesday, March 27, stop by Earth Fare at The Summit from 5 to 7 p.m. for food, prizes and fun. Walkers stopping by Earth Fare who have raised $100 by March 27 will be entered to win a $100 The Summit gift card. Earth Fare will be serving free food for High Heels & Hats participants and taking new walker registrations.
- On Sunday, April 14, enjoy a meal at Zoes Kitchen at The Summit from 5 to 8 p.m., and the restaurant will give back 20 percent of the purchase to Food For The Poor’s High Heels & Hats event. There will be a live band and activities for the kids. Walkers who have raised more than $100 for the High Heels & Hats event will be entered into a raffle at Zoes Kitchen, The Summit, 4126 Summit Plaza Drive, Louisville, Ky., 40241.
Food For The Poor, named by The Chronicle of Philanthropy as the largest international relief and development organization in the nation, does much more than feed millions of the hungry poor in 17 countries of the Caribbean and Latin America. This interdenominational Christian ministry provides emergency relief assistance, clean water, medicines, educational materials, homes, support for orphans and the aged, skills training and micro-enterprise development assistance, with more than 96 percent of all donations going directly to programs that help the poor.
