Food For The Poor’s Spring Gift Catalog: Honoring Mothers by Helping Others in Desperate Need
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (May 4, 2021) In many countries of the Caribbean and Latin America, mothers are unable to provide for their children, the frightful outcome of the COVID-19 pandemic that has decimated economies and increased food insecurity.
In Central America, the impact is compounded as the region continues to recover from devastating back-to-back hurricanes.
One of the ways to help is through Food For The Poor’s Spring Gift Catalog, which has many gift ideas to honor mothers by giving a gift for children and families in dire need.
“In developing countries, mothers often are the sole providers for their families. By choosing a gift from our gift catalog, caring donors can celebrate the lives of their mothers and improve the lives of others who are suffering,” said Food For The Poor President/CEO Ed Raine.
For $30, donors can provide a gift of 20 baby chicks that can provide a sustainable source of protein from eggs in addition to supplemental income from selling the extra eggs. Gift givers can feed a family of four for just $25 a month, or a child for an entire year for $73.
For $114, a sewing machine gives a family living in poverty an opportunity to earn income by making clothing and other textile products. The sewing machines are equipped to operate by either electricity or in homes without electricity, by foot pedals.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic first surged in early 2020, Food For The Poor has worked to supply the countries it helps with additional food and other critically needed items.
Last year, the charity shipped 455 tractor-trailer loads of supplies specifically for COVID-19 relief, including food, personal hygiene items, medical supplies, medicine, personal protective equipment, and cleaning supplies. The charity also purchased food and relief items in the countries served by FFTP to expedite relief.
In the aftermath of Hurricanes Eta and Iota, FFTP responded immediately and shipped 155 tractor-trailer loads of disaster relief items that included nonperishable food, two-burner liquid petroleum gas (propane) stoves and supplies. Thanks to generous donors, the charity was able to purchase critically needed food and hygiene items in the countries. Now, the charity and its donors are helping farmers replant crops through several projects that will increase food supply to areas hardest hit.
