Kendra Scott Sip and Shop to Support Food For The Poor in Haiti
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (Aug. 15, 2016) When Kendra Scott launched her namesake jewelry business in 2002, her stepfather’s deathbed wish resonated in her mind: “You do good.”
She acted on it, and today giving back is a major part of how she does business.
Supporters of Food For The Poor will have a wonderful opportunity to “do good” by providing hope for destitute families in Haiti at a special Sip and Shop event from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13 at Kendra Scott in Mizner Park, located at 411 Plaza Real, Boca Raton.
Guests will enjoy light appetizers and cocktails as they shop. The store will donate 20 percent of all sales during the event to Food For The Poor’s home-building efforts in Haiti. The store also will take orders by phone from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. that day. Customers can call 561-430-2520.
The Mizner Park boutique is one of more than 40 that stretch from the East Coast to Newport Beach, Calif. Kendra Scott’s jewelry also is sold in more than 800 stores internationally.
Before her segue into jewelry, Scott opened an Austin, Texas, hat store, inspired by the chemotherapy patients she met while her stepfather was fighting brain cancer. She started making an occasional necklace or ring for the store before starting her own jewelry business.
Today, the company continues to operate out of Austin, with a focus on “Family, Fashion & Philanthropy.” In the past 12 months, the company donated $1 million and 50,000 pieces of jewelry while working with more than 1,000 local and national organizations.
“The truest form of success is to give back in a meaningful way,” Scott says in her bio on the company’s web site.
The Sip and Shop will build excitement for Food For The Poor’s 22nd Annual Building Hope Gala which will be Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, at the Boca Raton Resort & Club, 501 E. Camino Real, Boca Raton. The evening will feature cocktails and a silent auction followed by a gourmet dinner along with entertainment and the opportunity to change the lives of families in desperate need.
In 1995, Food For The Poor began a housing program in Haiti and began building homes in Cite Soleil. Since then, almost 24,000 double-unit homes have been built in Haiti, more than 5,900 of them since the earthquake in January 2010. These sturdy homes provide the poor with shelter, safety and hope for the future.
“On behalf of the people in Haiti who will benefit from the generosity of strangers, we thank Kendra Scott for opening its doors to us,” said Food For The Poor Executive Director Angel Aloma.
Food For The Poor, one of the largest international relief and development organizations in the nation, does much more than feed millions of the hungry poor primarily in 17 countries of the Caribbean and Latin America. This interdenominational Christian ministry provides emergency relief assistance, clean water, medicines, educational materials, homes, support for orphans and the aged, skills training and micro-enterprise development assistance, with more than 95 percent of all donations going directly to programs that help the poor.
