Preparing for Coronavirus: FFP is Shipping Vitally Needed Supplies to Guyana, Haiti, Honduras and Jamaica

COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (March 17, 2020) Today, Food For The Poor is sending 20 pallets of much-needed health supplies to Guyana, Haiti, Honduras and Jamaica to help children and families prevent transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19). Items being picked up today to be airfreighted this week include antimicrobial wipes, gloves, masks, protective suits, bars of soap, facial tissues, and medical waste bags. Each country will receive five pallets.

The supplies were donated to Food For The Poor by Gleaning For The World, one of the charity’s partners. The donation will enable Food For The Poor to position supplies for quick deployment.

Medical care and treatment is often minimal or difficult to get in the countries served by Food For The Poor. The charity provides medical institutions and trusted partners in those countries with supplies to care for the sick.

“We are taking steps to protect the most vulnerable we serve,” Food For The Poor President/CEO Ed Raine said. “We’re continuing to monitor the situation closely and evaluating additional measures as needs arise.”

Coronavirus causes a respiratory disease called COVID-19. Symptoms include fever, cough, and shortness of breath. Most cases are mild, but the more serious cases can lead to severe lung damage.

Fifteen cases of coronavirus have been reported in Jamaica, seven in Guyana and six in Honduras as of Monday afternoon, according to worldometers.info, a website tracking coronavirus cases. Coronavirus is affecting more than 160 countries and territories around the world.

Food For The Poor, one of the largest international relief and development organizations in the nation, does much more than feed millions of the hungry poor primarily in 17 countries of the Caribbean and Latin America.
