Food For The Poor Ranks #1 Again
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (Nov. 2, 2009) – According to The Chronicle of Philanthropy’slist of the top 400 charities, Food For The Poor held on to the number one spot as the largest international relief and development organization in the United States. It also retained its number one status as the largest charitable organization in Florida.
The Christian-based ministry, which works to end the suffering of the poor across Latin America and the Caribbean, ranked fourth overall of the 400 charities in the United States that raise the most money from private sources. This ranking is up from Food For The Poor’s fifth-place ranking last year.

Food For The Poor’s excellent rankings can also be attributed to the charity’s consistently high efficiency ratio. In 2008, more than 97 percent of all donations went directly to programs that helped the poor.
Compassionate donors and maximum efficiency through low administrative and fundraising costs has enabled Food For The Poor to sustain their top spot on The Chronicle of Philanthropy’sannual list as well as an excellent rating from Charity Navigator, the nation’s foremost independent charity evaluator.
