Singing to Save Lives, Free Concerts to Benefit Hurricane Victims in Haiti
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (Nov. 16, 2016) Singers from Boston, New York and Pennsylvania who make up the quartet, Voice of Worship, will be lending their voices in two benefit concerts to help Food For The Poor to build homes for the victims of Hurricane Matthew in Haiti.
“I’ve always known since I was young that the voice is a unique gift from God. To know that I can be a vessel of hope through my voice is a great opportunity to bless so many hurting people in Haiti, who happen to be my brothers and sisters,” said John LaRose, a singer with Voice of Worship.
For more than a decade, Voice of Worship has been singing songs to glorify God and touching the hearts of listeners wherever they perform. The three baritones and the instrumentalist who make up the group, known simply as VOW, are all of Haitian decent and will be performing for free, singing contemporary classic Christian songs for two nights.
The first concert will be Friday, Nov. 18, 2016, at 7 p.m. at the Boca Raton Community Church, 470 Northwest Fourth Avenue, Boca Raton. The second will be Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016, at 7 p.m. at St. Benedict’s Episcopal Church, 7801 Northwest Fifth Street, Plantation.
Hurricane Matthew claimed hundreds of lives and left thousands homeless when it made landfall on Oct. 4, in the Grand’Anse region of the Caribbean nation’s southwest peninsula.
Food For The Poor has launched a campaign with the support of its generous donors to build 1,000 new housing units in 100 days, and will have 350 of these housing units completed by end of November. A reported 450 homes also were damaged by the storm and repairs are currently underway by the charity.
“There has been a tremendous outpour of support for the people in Haiti after the hurricane. We’ve sent dozens of containers of aid and are working extremely hard to build and repair homes as quickly as we can,” said Angel Aloma, Executive Director of Food For The Poor. “There are a number of fundraising projects underway, but there’s something special about the gift of song. We are humbled that VOW has decided to volunteer their talents to help this organization to help the victims of Hurricane Matthew. We want to thank them for their loving kindness.”
Any gift for housing given during the free concerts or online at www.FoodForThePoor.org/vow100 will be matched to build safe, sturdy homes for Haitian families. Executive Director Angel Aloma, the keynote speaker, will share an inspirational message at both events.
