The Chicken and the Egg in Kadwa

We’re so grateful to Dani Johnson and her incredible compassion for the poor. Through her King’s Ransom Foundation, thousands of lives are being transformed (in a good way) in Haiti, Nicaragua and beyond.

Take for instance a multi-faceted project that continues to unfold in Kadwa, Haiti.

Thanks to King’s Ransom Foundation supporters, the community development initiative in Kadwa (which is located in Mirebalais, close to the Artibonite River) has already provided safe, sturdy homes for 60 families in need of shelter. Each home includes access to water and sanitation, as well as a solar light kit.

Also included in the project is the construction of an income-generating sugar cane mill, as well as the provision of 45 chickens for 25 different families.

The chicken component is helping people produce steady sources of income and nutrition. In November 2015, the beneficiaries collected a total of 11,248 eggs. The eggs are being sold locally for $0.35 US per egg, or $4.20 US per dozen. November’s production was sold for a total of $2,154.79 US.

A woman named Angel was the beneficiary with the highest egg collection for the month of November. She gathered a total of 900 eggs which sold for $140.19 US. Angel told our FFP team she is very proud of her farm’s performance, and that she loves to share her knowledge and experience with others in the community.

Angel expressed her joy by saying, “I thank God for Food For The Poor and the donors. I was able to buy a pig with the profits from my chicken project. I will keep all the donors and their families in my prayers.”
