The Right Reverend Leopold Frade, D.D.
DIRECTOR
The Right Reverend Leopold Frade was born and raised in Havana, Cuba, where he attended Candler College, a Methodist school. From there, he went to Asbury College in Kentucky to prepare for the ministry.
Later, he graduated from Biscayne College, known today as Saint Thomas University, in Miami. He obtained his master’s degree in Divinity from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn., and was ordained as an Episcopal priest serving in Miami, New Orleans and Orlando.
In 1984, he was elected and consecrated to be the Diocesan Bishop of Honduras, where he helped grow the Episcopal Church and participated in various ecumenical efforts to help bring peace to the Civil Wars in El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Guatemala. It was after Hurricane Mitch that he crossed paths with Food For The Poor (FFTP).
In 2000, Bishop Frade was elected the Diocesan Bishop of Southeast Florida and moved back to Miami, caring for churches from Key West to Jensen Beach. He helped develop the Hispanic and Haitian ministry in the area, which energized the parishioners. At the same time, Bishop Frade joined the FFTP Board of Directors.
As a Bishop, he also served as a member of the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church, Vice President of the IX Province of the Church, and was one of the two bishops who founded the work of the Lutheran-Episcopal Coordinating Committee. He was also a member of the Ecumenical Commission of the Episcopal Church at a national level.
Bishop Frade received a Doctorate in Divinity of the General Seminary in New York, and he has received three honorary degrees from different seminaries.
Bishop Frade is married to Dr. Diana Frade, founder and Director of Our Little Roses, a home for abandoned, orphaned, and abused girls in San Pedro Sula.
He is now retired and lives in San Pedro Sula and Miami.
