A Life’s Journey through Music to Build a School in Haiti
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (Oct. 5, 2015) – On November 10, Karen Stebbins will turn 50. The Santa Cruz singer has decided that in honor of this special milestone in her life, she’s going to do something different. Stebbins is going to share her life’s story through music, and give a gift that’s going to make a lasting impact for generations to come.
“Instead of celebrating my birthday, I decided to do a concert with all the musicians I had spent my life doing music with. There will be three sets that walk through the various personal and musical stages of my life, beginning with classical music, to worship/contemporary, and finally classic rock,” said Stebbins. “Throughout these sets, I will be accompanied by friends, family, and individuals that hold a special place in my life.”
Stebbins, a wife and mother of three, also has a special place in her heart for the poor. She has decided that proceeds from her concert will be donated to the international relief and development organization Food For The Poor toward the construction of a new school.
Ecole Carl Brouard Bethanie de Source Sable will be built in Ganthier, Haiti, which is approximately 30 miles east of Port-au-Prince. The school will have four classrooms that will allow more than 390 kindergarten and first-grade students to attend in shifts. In Haiti, classes are held in the mornings and in the afternoons to reduce overcrowding. Ten teachers, and eight administrative staff, who are currently conducting class in a decaying building with a dirt floor also will benefit from the new school, which will provide a safer environment for everyone.
