More Top Honors For Food For The Poor

Coconut Creek, Fla. (Feb. 3, 2009) –The nation’s leading international charity has received a special accolade from the nation’s leading charity watchdog group.

Food For The Poor, a Florida-based nonprofit was recognized for having earned a coveted 4-star rating for eight consecutive years from Charity Navigator. Less than one percent of the more than 5,300 nonprofits scrutinized by Charity Navigator have achieved such an impressive track record.

Charity Navigator has been giving Food For The Poor high marks since the watchdog started evaluating charities in 2001. Food For The Poor’s Executive Director Angel Aloma says he’s not surprised by the latest honor because his organization works hard to serve the poor the best way it can.

“Food For The Poor is blessed to have generous donors, hardworking employees, and a clear mission to serve those most in need,” says Aloma. “We keep our overhead extremely low to stretch every dollar so we can put food on more tables, put roofs over more heads, save more lives and try to break the cycle of poverty.”

In its latest review, Charity Navigator commended Food For The Poor for its commitment to responsible philanthropy. Charity Navigator explains that the 4-star rating indicates that Food For The Poor “exceeds industry standards and outperforms most charities” doing similar work. It also means that Food For The Poor is exceptionally efficient in how it uses donor support – something that other organizations have also noted about Food For The Poor.

Ministry Watch gives Food For The Poor a 5-Star Financial Efficiency rating – the highest possible score. In its latest report, “America’s 200 Largest Charities, “Forbes” awarded Food For The Poor the number four slot and gave Food For The Poor high marks for its charitable commitment and fundraising efficiency. And the Better Business Bureau says Food For The Poor meets the “extensive standards of America’s most experienced charity evaluator.”
